5-time champions Chennai Super Kings have roped in young Protea batter Dewald Brevis as the replacement for the injured left-arm seamer Gurjapneet Singh. The Super Kings were able to bag Brevis as they had one overseas spot left in their squad. Brevis had a base price of INR 75 lakh at the end of last year, but he was picked by CSK at INR 2.2 Crores.
This is a big boost for the 5-time winners in an otherwise struggling batting lineup. Brevis became a young prodigy a few years ago & was already compared with the legendary AB De Villiers. Brevis, though, has played just a couple of games for South Africa. In the IPL circuit, he was involved with another 5-time winner squad of the Mumbai Indians, playing 10 games in the tournament. Brevis continues to don the blue of MI in the SA20 & ILT20.
And now, Dewald Brevis is Yellove! 💛#WhistlePodu #Yellove 🦁💛

Overall, the 21-year-old has already played 81 T20s and has a strike rate close to 145. he comes into the tournament with some good form under his belt, playing in the domestic circuit back home representing the Titans. The young batter had a good season in the SA20 as he was among the top run-getters list & had the highest strike rate of 184.17 above others at the end of the season. The Chennai Super Kings are currently struggling in the tournament with just a couple of wins in 7 games & are at the second-to-last spot in the points table.
Brevis's presence in the batting order will add value to the struggling batting lineup of the Super Kings, which has shown lack of intent to score runs in the powerplay.
Brevis is the second replacement player for CSK this season who has already signed Mumbai prodigy Ayush Mhatre to replace their regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK's next game is against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on April 20.
